Solar School

Zangla,
India
Other
2014

In cooperation with the Csoma’s Room Foundation, our office have had the opportunity to design the first Hungarian solar school in Zangla. The building is located in one of the hidden valleys of the Indian Himalayas, nearly 4000 meters above sea level.

The principal concept was to capture the intense solar irradiance appearing at high altitudes and creating classrooms that can operate at wintertime even without heating. The building was constructed from local materials (clay, stone, wood) and has an ideal orientation.

Its solar spaces and the walls capable of heat accumulation are making it suitable for this mission.
