Budapest’s vast supply of thermal water has provided a unique opportunity throughout history for the emergence of different bathing cultures, like the Roman and Turkish baths.

The project seeks to orientate between these successive layers, both in terms of space formation, material use and volume.

It was important for us to create a unique atmosphere that reflects the special character of historic baths.

We let this atmosphere define the mass formation and the spatial shaping of the bath, which resulted in a truly subtle world.

We paid great attention to the material use, to the natural and artificial lights, and to the relationship between interior and exterior, and of course to the water itself.

The existing dome space and the new central leisure pool, as two central elements in our concept, have a special emphasis, organizing all other functions around themselves.
