Salvage was the aim in the case of the Láng Community Centre. The original 1970’s two-storey building with its cantilevered two-storey high upper mass was preserved and redefined.
The older and smaller brick façade building was replaced with a new building part by retaining the old mass and contour, but with a new basement and a modern spatial disposition. On the ground floor the visitor is greeted in an entrance hall, with an oak covered staircase leading to the gallery placed above the buffet.
The outer mass has been unified by the new scarlet brick pattern façade covering. It’s warm, vivid carpet-like texture with the contrasting anthracite joints, and the positioning of these patterns are like fine moderate ornaments expressing the structure of the building.
The scarlet tone is referring to the industrial past of the neighbourhood and at the same time the highlighting of the pillars with the pattern creates something as on organic memory, that is storngly associated with the place, the past and the present.
