In the case of this neo-renaissance mansion – designed by Vilmos Freund, the task was the conversion of the building into a 4-star hotel with 99 rooms. The essence of the architectural concept was the transformation of the former mansion courtyard into an interior space.
The new character is defined by the pierced court façade free of windows and doors and the lightweight glass structure. The courtyard was covered on the top floor, therefore the glass roof is wider and the supports are not visible from the lower levels, almost floating above the court and not changing the proportions of the space.
Thus the decorative courtyard can function as a lobby, connecting the entrance with the new vertical distribution block in the side wing, braiding the attractive historic architecture into the hotel’s internal circulation.
All of the rooms are facing the streets. The hotel also has a restaurant and a bar. The interior design of the hotel was made by the Kroki Studio.
